Mother of the Bride: How to Pick the Perfect Gown

Mother of the Bride: How to Pick the Perfect Gown

For your daughter’s wedding, it’s only fitting that you want to wear something that makes you feel beautiful and reflects the joy you feel for your daughter’s happiness. While Mother of the Bride dresses have been traditionally conservative, lace-colored styles, modern designs offer much more fashion-forward, stylish options for the modern mom. If you’re not sure where to start with shopping, here are our best tips.

Bring a Friend

We think one of the best ways to take the stress out of shopping is to make a day of it. Bring a friend (or your daughter!) and grab lunch before or after shopping, and turn the occasion into a fun outing rather than a stressful one.

Listen to the Bride

If the bride has any specific ideas on what color you should wear, take that into account while shopping. Otherwise, we recommend taking cues from the bridal party. There’s no need to match exactly, but selecting a color that goes well with the colors of the wedding. You don’t want to look back on photos and be standing out, clashing with the bridal party. Try to find a dress you know will go well with the wedding’s aesthetic!

Talk to the Mother of the Groom

Traditionally, the Mother of the Bride buys her dress first, then lets the Mother of the Groom know so she can begin shopping. You don’t need to stick to this tradition, but we do encourage communicating with your daughter’s new mother-in-law! You don’t want to show up in the same color, or even the same dress (although at least you’d know she’s got great taste!). Let her know what you got so that you don’t run into any issues!
